Concrete Paths

Walking down the concrete paths
She found a paper stuck between the cracks
Opened it and it was dated Aug 16
And remembered the date suddenly
She remembered a love she had back then
To a man that opened up her soul and stayed within
She’s stopped in the middle of the sidewalk just frozen in time
“Sorry ma’am, I’m just lost in my mind..”
The lady rushed by and almost knocked her down
You see when your in love you can’t hear or see around
People brush by and mutter rude things
As she stands there and reminisces on those times
Times when he knew her every word
And with the blink of an eye he would protect her from hurt
Those days are like concrete paths
Trampled by the feet of those walking by
Only a date vaguely scattered in her mind….don’t cry.
She wishes she could jump and do things differently
But what’s done is done
Just one picture and two memories
